CROSS HATCH
To be located outside of Martinsville, Indiana, this proposed aviary is a competition project (that earned recognition!). It houses both indoor and outdoor aviaries as well as educational and event spaces and is designed to showcase properties of local Indiana hardwoods.
This building’s permeable membrane creates an atmosphere below that accentuates natural systems and daylighting in the space. Hardwood is emphasized and celebrated through its pairing with other natural materials, and extruded columns provide structure and divide spatial regions without disrupting the flow of the beams.
